So Fishy but Still So Good!

There’s always that one friend who knows just where to get good food. Sometimes, you need to drive far; other times, it can just be right behind your house.

In this case, it’s not a friend and yes, it was behind my house. My sister’s husband has a nose for delectable menus and he found a gem located in Ara Damansara, the area that is just next to ours in Kelana Jaya. Ara Damansara is a short drive away from us, about 20 minutes minus the traffic. On weekends, it’s a breeze heading there. But on weekdays, you might want to think twice, especially if you’re not living in Ara Damansara.

So. this quaint little restaurant is called Sabah Keratang KL (because they have another branch in Kota Kinabalu). It’s not a small shop lot but it can only house so many tables and when it gets crowded, the whole place is a cacophony of noise. Everyone is talking at the same time and you can barely hear yourself think.

Gripes aside, though, the food was good. The menu only served seafood of sorts, plus the occasional vegetable dishes for those who still need their greens. From the menu, we saw they served prawns, squid, and fish which were all prepared and cooked in whichever style that suited your fancy. Steamed, braised, soaked in curry, fried, or added into a bowl of noodles.

But the highlight of the restaurant was the fish. The only fish they served was garoupa or grouper fish. Fresh, grouper fish. And my dad ordered three different styles of it:

And topped our meal off with a dish of fried squid. The assam fish head curry was well-balanced with a thick consistency to its sour and spicy gravy. I liked the squid a lot, followed by the assam fish head curry, and then the steamed one. But it was a lot of fish to take in last night so I skipped the braised option.

If you want your fishy cravings satisfied but don’t know where to go, I recommend that you try this place. It may seem like it’s out of the way, wherever you are staying, but it is definitely worth a visit.
