Ever heard of the phrase, “Do one thing every day that scares you?” What about this? “Do something every day that is hard until it’s not?”
This justifies and explains my day today. Usually, it is Mr Geeker who attends new phone launches and other miscellaneous media events but today, I stood chest out and said, “I’ll go for this one.” Nah, I kid. I just said I’ll attend this one because, hey, don’t we all need some really good exposure and brush up on those networking skills?
The event I attended today was for the new product launch by Xiaomi — the Xiaomi Mi 9T. Held at the Equatorial Plaza along Jalan Sultan Ismail, the event was a full house with every seat taken in the Sapphire Meeting Room! Well, who can blame people for turning up? After all, it was a new launch for a well-known smartphone brand.
My only pet peeve was the traffic heading into the KL city centre. Not to mention, the bad weather that drove every Malaysian driver mad. It took me almost an hour heading into the city and then another 15 minutes stuck at one short stretch of the road with my final destination supposedly less than 5 minutes away.
I won’t be diving into the specifications of the phone as we are still awaiting the arrival of a review unit. Once we have that, when we have that, I’ll let Mr Geeker proceed with what he does best.
So, what we have here are two storage versions of the phone:
- Xiaomi Mi 9T (6GB + 64GB) for RM1,099
- Xiaomi Mi 9T (6GB + 128GB) for RM1,199
Just to briefly cover what was mentioned during the event:
- The Xiaomi Mi 9T is the global version of the Redmi K20
- Comes with 6.39″ Full HD+ AMOLED and an in-display fingerprint sensor
- Designed with a curved glass back
- Runs on Snapdragon 730 processor
- Comes with a hefty 4,000mAh battery for 18W charging via USB-C
- Comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack
- Does not have microSD card expansion
The camera specs are pretty neat too if you ask me. It has a 48-megapixel main camera, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens offering up to 2X optical zoom. The smartphone even comes packed with a 20-megapixel pop-up selfie camera (for all you selfie fans!) and a rear-fitted triple-camera combination.
Xiaomi is also partnering with Lazada Malaysia for an early bird special promotion for potential Mi 9T (6GB + 64GB) buyers. Pre-book the model as early as June 20th and the phone is yours for RM1,099.
Alas, with traffic and weather not on my side, I turned up halfway into the speech given by the Xiaomi presenter. At least I appeared, no less. And still had enough time to take down the nitty-gritty details for our beloved blog readers.
I must add, though, that despite English not being the presenter’s first language, he has a knack for making jokes. I even managed to record a video of the joke. Check out our Geekerbytes Facebook and Instagram for the video. Doesn’t he just look like a lovely and friendly chap to you?
