A Change of Environment is Good for the Soul.

Starting a new job can be daunting.

The environment is new. The people are new. The place itself is new. All the systems and processes that you’ll be using throughout your three- or six-month probation are all very new. The idea of working in a place where you’ll have to start familiarising yourself from scratch can actually be quite stressful.

If you have a supportive system, you’ll do fine. But sometimes even your support system can crash. And then you’ll be left on your own. Fast forward three months, however, and if you still find it hard to cope and struggle to manage your stress, maybe it’s time to switch things up a bit. No, not quit the job even if it can seem quite tempting and easier said than done. But perhaps it’s time to re-ignite your passion for travelling (or whatever it is that you enjoy doing that helps you to rest easier and relax).

And that’s just what I did.

I went online, did a brief search, found a place, booked a room, and packed my bags on the day before the long weekend began. My husband was equally stretched and stressed out so we paid for a cosy little deluxe room in Damas Suites & Residences in Plaza Damas, Kuala Lumpur for a couple of nights. It doesn’t need to be more than a couple of nights. As long as you get to hide away for awhile, from the daily rat race and the pressure that comes with it. As long as you feel relaxed by the end of your stay.

The reason why I did this was only because for the past number of months, we’ve been so hard at work that we have ignored and forgotten how to live. Also, because we go home after work everyday, we have begun to associate our home with work. We leave the house daily to go to work. At the end of which is when we leave work for home. It was the only cycle we had and it started to feel dull and drab. Hence, the sudden urge to stay anywhere but home.

Damas Suites & Residences KL is located in Sri Hartamas, neighbouring the Royal Palace and is directly opposite the Plaza Damas Sri Hartamas Shopping Mall. From the suites and residences, there is a covered walkway that leads tourists and guests right into the mall. This modern serviced apartment hotel is also located 6km away from the Putra World Trade Centre and 10km away from the Mid Valley Megamall.

Each sleek apartment unit comes fitted with a cozy kitchen and living room equipped with sofa beds, free Wi-Fi and a flat-screen television. Most units come with balconies. Some of the upgraded units have additional washing machines and dryers. There is a restaurant at the lobby which features a breakfast buffet for a fee (it is currently priced at RM17.00++ per person) with a spread of both Western and Asian fare. Other amenities include an outdoor infinity swimming pool, a fitness centre, a sauna and a games room. Basement parking (two levels) is available for guests who prefer to park in the shade than out in the hot Malaysian weather.

The accommodation provided here is spacious for both short and long term stays, with units and suites ranging from 49-94 square meters and are ideal for guests or even families who require the extra space.

If you wish to check it out, here is the address of the serviced apartment hotel:

Plaza Damas 3, No. 63, Jalan Sri Hartamas 1, Taman Sri Hartamas, 50480 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

On a lighter and happier note, the two books by Antoine Laurain that I ordered via Book Depository has finally arrived a day before I left for my weekend stay. Now I have all three books written by the same author!
